Error 1905, followed by side-by-side configuration error on open

My brand-new Windows 8 laptop is refusing to install or run the newest version of FTR. Upon install, I get the following errors:

Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files(x86)\FTR\ForTheRecord\TheRecordPlayer.exe failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473.

This error repeats 15 number of times with different items replacing "TheRecordPlayer" in the above line.

Upon attempting to open the program, this is the error that appears:

C:\Program Files(x86)\FTR\ForTheRecord\TheRecordPlayer.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

So what do I do to fix this? I've tried fiddling with it in different compatibility modes, because I know on my laptop that was running Windows 7, it worked just fine.
