Need help with FTR Reporter 2.2 please

I have 10 Courtrooms that have FTR Reporter 2.2 running on Windows XP w/SP3 and the latest Windows Updates.  I know we are behind the times with an old OS and old FTR but right now, this is the way it will be for another year problably. I am hoping that someone can help me or give me an idea of what to try. I would like to say first that this problem has been going on for about 6-9 months now but the Magistrates have never said anything up until about a month or so ago when it started to become worse. The problem is that during the course of the day, the Magistrates will stop and start the recorder when they have their hearings. There are many times where they will click on the record button, and it takes 30 seconds or a minute for the program to start to record which makes them delay the hearing until the recorder starts. Here is what I have done to troubleshoot so far.

I have cleaned up one of the workstations (Disk Cleanup, Defrag hard drive, adjusted programs that run at startup). This had no effect.

I did a complete uninstall and re-install of FTR with no improvement.

I suspected a problem with the network connection because we do archive to a network server so at first I switched the network port the PC is plugged into and no difference. I then went to the server room and even switched where this PC was plugged into the switch to a different switch and this made no difference. I then shut off the archiving part to see if this would stop the delay but it does not.

I am out of ideas to try and the Magistrates are not too happy. I was thinking of totally re-imaging the computer but to me, it has to be something of a larger scale because its effecting multiple PC's. I was wondering if there was some sort of XP update in the last year that may be causing a conflict or something with FTR.  Has anyone had this issue or any suggestions of what to try next?  Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Chris
