I just bought a brand new computer, and I'm trying to install FTR. I've read most of the Windows 8-related fixes and nothing is working for me. Here is the message I am getting if I even try to load any audio into the FTR:
"An error has occurred launching the open dialog. If restarting TheRecord Player does not fix the problem, then please uninstall and reinstall TheRecord Player. (0X80131534)"
If I try to load audio via an http file, here is the error message I get:
"Could not load the recording for playback. (0x80131534)"
I am curious about the Net 3.5 because there are several sub-boxes within the 3.5 box (windows communication Foundation activation and windows communication foundation non-http activation). Should those both be checked?
Also, what about the Net 4.5 advanced settings? Should that be checked as well? It has two sub-boxes (ASP.NET 4.5) and (WCF Services, of which there are several more sub-sub-boxes [HTTP activation, Message queuing, named pipe activation, tcp activation, tcp port sharing]) Should all or some of these be checked as well?
Please help. I spent a lot of money on a new computer and I can't even do my work without FTR. I don't know what I'm going to do. I work for Reportex Agencies (among others) in Vancouver and I know they support FTR.
Thanks, Michael
UPDATE: After hours of trial and error, I think I may have solved the problem. Definitely had something to do with the chosen search folder. I edited the registry manually and then the next time I installed the program I also used Windows' "compatibility troubleshooter" and told it that the program worked previously on Windows 8 (I am now running 8.1). The next time I installed and opened FTR is once again asked me to assign a search folder, but this time I said "no" and I am able to manually load audio and it plays fine ... for now. I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: Restarted FTR today and it's back to the same error message and unable to load audio. Please help
